Ludwig QH - Schwantelhof-Bitz, Germany July 8-10, 2021

On July 8, the beautiful Ludwig Quarter Horses facility opened the doors to the 2021 ERCHA/NRCHA Bridle Spectacular held concurrent with the NRHA Germany Reining Masters.

The ERCHA and NRCHA approved all ages event is open to all breeds and  horses regardless of their show record. "Although the rain accompanied us throughout the week, the show went really well,” said ERCHA President Markus Schopfer.  “We enjoyed organizing this show concurrently with the NRHA Germany Reining Masters at Grischa’s [Ludwig] facility, and we have all the credentials to organize this event again next year.”

Schopfer and Oh Cay Mc are 2021 ERCHA/NRCHA Open Bridle Spectacular Champions.
Capturing the $3.000-added ERCHA/NRCHA Open Bridle Spectacular Championship with a strong performance worth a 220.5 composite score was Markus Schopfer riding Yvonne Bonda’s Oh Cay Mc (Metallic Cat x Oh Cay Meriah).
On the first day, the italian professional and the well-known stallion led the rein work class with a 72.5 score. The following day, they closed with a 73 score in the herd work and a huge 75 in the fence work.
“Mario [Oh Cay Mc], as always is a special horse! I can only keep on saying that I really like everything about this horse, from his cow sense, to his attitude and consistency in the fence work, to his skills in the reined work. He’s a great-minded stud, with great genetics and a ton of style!”

Samuele Poli Barberis aboard Cats Got Freckles, an AQHA stallion sired by Fourteen Million Dollar Sire WR This Cats Smart out of Playboys Girl and owned by Luca Terzi took the Reserve Championship with a 219 composite score (rein work 71, herd work 74, fence work 74). The strong and consistent duo, that we have been so used to seeing winning in the European cowhorse arenas for years now, also topped the Open Herd work with a 74 score.

German Sattler laid down a great performance dominating the Limited Open Bridle Spectacular.
Patrick Sattler rode his own MissSparklingShowTime to the first place of the  $500-added ERCHA/NRCHA Limited Open Bridle Spectacular Championship with a 211.5 composite score (rein work 69.5, herd work 70, fence work 72).
With a 209.5 total score (rein work 70.5, herd work 69, fence work 70), German Sattler also took  Reserve honors with Sylvia Bate’s Justa Shiningsparkle between the reins.
“Both  horses are self-bred and born in 2014 and this was their first big show in the bridle. When they were 4, at the Americana for the Futurity, they both got sick at the show and we had no chance to show them. Last year there weren’t any ERCHA/NRCHA shows in Germany, so now the half-sisters had their first big show in the bridle.  MissSprklingShowtime (Freckles Miss Olena X Sharp Dressed Shiner), winner of the Bridle Spectacular Limited Open, bred and trained by myself as well as the Reserve. Champion Justa Shiningsparkle (Justa Little Slipper X Sharp Dressed Shiner) bred by Sylvia Bate and also trained by myself had both performed respectfully for the first time in the three phase event and in a bridle.  We are very happy and thankful of the wonderful results.
It was a super show at Ludwig Quarter Horses  with an absolutely perfect ground for all three: herd, rein and cow work! Meeting the ERCHA Cow Horse family again, after 18 months with no big shows held in Germany, was just amazing and we are very happy to had been in Bitz with a couple of horses and had a nice and also successful time.”

Gabriele Poli Barberis clinched the 2021 $1.000-added ERCHA/NRCHA Non Pro Bridle Spectacular Championhip.
The young italian rider and his loyal Highbrow Fletch (Royal Fletch x Lil Sally Cat) made their way to Germany, not only performed to a 74 to lead the Non Pro Herd Work, but also to win the Championship with a 209.5 composite score (rein work 69.5, herd work 74, fence work 66).
“Highbrow Fletch is one of the stallions of the my family ranch with whom my dad [professional Samuele Poli Barberis] has won many titles over the years. It was the first time I showed in a bridle and was really happy to have done it with this horse because I’ve always had a lot of feeling with him. It was a beautiful week, a location that my family and I like so much; the environment and the atmosphere were splendid and after almost two years of closed-door events it was great to hear the audience so warm and cheering.”

Tying for the Reserve Championship with a 207.5 score was German Marco Breitenbach aboard his own VR Lolita Pep (Star G Grand Peppy x Lolita Jacs) and Swiss Shirley Schalcher riding her own DG Little Rey Merada (Roany Rey x Lenas Smart Merada).

2021 ERCHA/NRCHA Non Pro Limited Bridle Spectacular was all about France!
Winning the $200-added ERCHA/NRCHA Non Pro Limited Bridle Spectacular with a 201.5 composite score (rein work 69.5, herd work 64, fence work 68), was french Eric Leseur riding his own Metallic Whiz (Itsgoodtobelucio x Boogie Woogy Whiz). This duo also topped the Herd Work during the second day of show.
“First of all I would like to thank Sylvie and Grischa for taking care of us and giving ERCHA the opportunity of being under the spotlight during such a great s show where everything was so well taken care of," he said. "My horse is an 8-year-old gelding bred by Samisa Ranch and always takes care of me and is so much fun to ride. The reason we achieved this result is that we were really 'together' and did our best to take care of each other. We didn't have a great cow but it was one that was out of our comfort zone and I can't thank my teammate - who I love to death - enough. He took care for me there and gave me a lot of confidence in the reined work as well because of his high level of training. I would like to conclude by congratulating all the winners and riders: When you show in the cow horse events, everyone is a beginner!”

The Reserve Championship was for Charlène Aubreton, also from France, who rode A Reminic Star (Lenas Starfish x Miss Reminic Chex) for owner CJA Quarter Horses to a 198 composite score: rein work 71  (the highest score in both Non Pro Rein Work and Non Pro Limited classes) herd work 61, fence work 66.

During the event ERCHA/NRCHA Open and Non Pro Hackamore classes were also offered:

Winning the $800-added Open Hackamore were Markus Schopfer and HipCat, past ERCHA/NRCHA Open Hackamore Classic Champions. The talented stallion (Metallic Cat x Hip Hip Sue Rey) with Schopfer in the saddle performed to a 140.5 (rein work 72.5, fence work 68) to win the class for proud owner Yvonne Bonda.
Second place, with a 138 composite (rein work 69, fence work 69) was for Patrick Sattler riding Johanna & Franz Vorraber’s Diamonds Lovely Kiss (Bic Chic Gun x SZ Smodkin Diamond).

Shirley Schalcher won the $200-added Non Pro Hackamore class riding her own SS Smart Cash N Cerry (Big And Sweet BB x Miss Flipstick).
