For 125 years, the land at Fazenda Campanario in Laguna Carapa, Brazil, has been cultivated for agriculture. For the past 40 years, one of the ranch’s focuses has been raising quality American Quarter Horses for ranch work, and today it is rewarded with the American Quarter Horse Association International Best Remuda award.

First and foremost, the National Reined Cow Horse Association board of directors and staff hopes everyone is safe and healthy. The current situation at the national, state and local level is changing at a rapid pace for all. Several questions have been asked regarding the association’s premier event schedule. With the global sporting calendar decimated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the FEI has made drastic changes to the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ 2020 rules in a bid to maintain the series Final at Barcelona in October this year. Under changes proposed by the FEI Jumping Committee and approved by the FEI Board during its teleconference this week, a total of 22 nations will be invited to compete at the Longines Final, staged at the prestigious Barcelona Polo Club. The 22 teams would be 10 from Europe, three from North America, two from South America, two from the Middle East, two from Asia/Australasia, one apiece from Africa and Eurasia, plus the host nation Spain.

The National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) board and management team and the Great Southwest Equestrian Center continue planning to hold the NRBC May 24-31 if Texas and Harris County restrictions from the Covid-19 Virus permit. In a meeting held April 16, Amy Uniss-Coleman, General Manager of the GSEC along with Tom McCutcheon, Colleen McQuay, Tim McQuay, Pete Kyle, Dell Hendricks and Cheryl Cody discussed the future of the event.

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Executive Board met to discuss the 2020 NRHA European Affiliate Championships in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to governmental restrictions surrounding the pandemic, the European Affiliate Championships can’t be held in Denmark in July.

Dear Friends,
Considering the worldwide health crisis and the national suspension of all sports activities, in order to protect and facilitate all our members on both national and international levels, we took the decision to move the 2020 ERCHA/NRCHA Derby and ERCHA/NRCHA Futurity to the Salone Del Cavallo Americano which was postponed and will be held on September 8-12 in Cremona, Italy. The format of both the Derby and Futurity will be class in class for the qualifiers and finals.

Junie Wood, NCHA Horse of the Year, was laid to rest

The news about Junie Wood, 2014 NCHA Horse of the Year and one of NCHA’s Top 20 all-time leading money earners, with $525,774, was shared Friday on Facebook by her owner, Slate River Ranch. “It was with heavy hearts yesterday that we had to lay our mare Junie Wood to rest. She was diagnosed with kidney disease a few weeks back and unfortunately we had to make this tough decision.”
