DT Horses & Hashtags' NRCHA World's Greatest Horseman
One horse, one bridle, and finally, one newly-crowned World's Greatest Horseman has etched his name in the record books.

The ERCHA Board met to determine the 2021 Show Calendar and yearly plan and is thrilled to be able to announce the following dates and innovations.

The atmosphere on Open Snaffle Bit Futurity finals night inside Will Rogers Coliseum was nothing short of adrenaline-charged as fans were treated to one dynamic performance after another at the $1.3 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity, presented by Metallic Cat.
The crowning of Open, Cinch Intermediate Open and Limited Open champions represented the dreams of owners, breeders and trainers coming to fruition. In typical reined cow horse fashion it all came down to the fence work.

Following up on their consistent performances of 214.5 out of the herd and 215.5 in the reined work, Bret Paulick and IllBeYourHickleberry laid down a 222 in the fence work to clench the Non Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity championship and $25,000. Paulick's 652 composite also won the Intermediate Non Pro title for another $8,676. IllBeYourHickleBerry is by Hickory Holly Time and out of Miss Slic Smoke, by Chick N San, and is owned and bred by Bret and Amie Paulick, Erdra, Utah.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has hired Anna Morrison as NRCHA Executive Director.

“Anna brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to our association,” said Corey Cushing, NRCHA President. “The NRCHA Board of Directors invested a great deal of time and thought into locating just the right candidate for the position of NRCHA Executive Director. We feel that Anna is a great fit for this very crucial role within our association and we’re excited to have her join the team.”

Elite reined cow horses competing in the Open Hackamore and Open Bridle finals took the spotlight today in Fort Worth, Texas, at the $1.3 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity, presented by Metallic Cat, while 3-year-old Open and Non Pro finalists enjoyed a day off.

Snaffle Bit Futurity finals herd work begins on Thursday, October 22 at 2 p.m. in Will Rogers Coliseum with the Intermediate and Limited Open divisions, followed by the Non Pro, and culminating with the Open. On Friday, October 23 the Intermediate Open, Limited Open, and Non Pro finals rein and cow work take place, with the Open rein and cow work to be held on Saturday, October 24.

Open Bridle Champion
High Stressin Cat (WR This Cats Smart x Playguns Melody x Playgun), ridden by Nick Dowers for owner Clinton Marshall, worked his way to the top of an ultra-tough Open Bridle finals to earn $10,880 and the prestigious title. Judges awarded High Stressin Cat and Dowers a 223 in the reined work and 220.5 down the fence for a combined 443.5, which clenched the victory.

The Open Bridle champion was awarded a custom saddle from DC Cow Horse Gear, sponsored by Rent-A-Stall-Mat; a Gist custom buckle sponsored by Jim Gauthier and Bill and Carla McElligott, a two-month supply of the Equine Wellness & Performance Formula + Digestive Care by Platinum Performance®, and monogrammed Cinch jacket from NRCHA.

Intermediate Open Bridle Champion
The Intermediate Open Bridle championship was determined today by a work-off between Open Bridle finalists Coloradoboonsmal ridden by Keith Vogel, and Peptos Smart Cookie ridden by Shane Steffen, after each posted matching scores of 295 (147 rein/ 148 cow) in the Intermediate Open Bridle prelims. Coloradoboonsmal (Peptoboonsmal x Miss Playboys Josie x Freckles Playboy) and Vogel earned the title, scoring a 419.5 today to break the tie and pocket $1,904. Coloradoboonsmal is owned by Conrad Swanson.

Open Hackamore Champion
A brilliant performance in today's finals by the 2016 gelding Jittery, ridden by Erin Taormino, earned them the Open Hackamore championship. Owned by Smith Cattle Company, LLC Ltd., Jittery is by Metallic Cat and out of Jitters Brown by Smart Little Lena. Jittery and Taormino scored a 218 in the reined work and crowd-pleasing 223 down the fence to cinch the win and earn $13,244. Alvin and Becky Fults are the breeders of Jittery.

The Open Hackamore champion received a custom saddle by The Saddle House, sponsored by Brazos Valley Equine Hospital; a Gist custom buckle, two-month supply of the Equine Wellness & Performance Formula + Digestive Care by Platinum Performance®, and monogrammed Cinch jacket from NRCHA.

Taylor Sheridan, co-creator and producer of Yellowstone, used today's Open Hackamore Finals as a chance to capture footage for use in his Paramount Network television series. It became apparent during the first set of Open Hackamore finals that an arena sign placed by Sheridan’s crew was presenting a significant distraction for the horses. After concurring with NRCHA leadership, Taylor offered to pay each of the 19 Open Hackamore finalists $13,244 each—the same amount that was awarded for first place. Sheridan acknowledged the intrusion and wished to make the best of the situation for each worthy finalist. Prizes and placings were still awarded by virtue of each horse's score.

Cow Horse for Cutters Champion
National Cutting Horse Association non professionals were invited to participate today in NRCHA Limited (box only) competition as part of the 2nd annual Cow Horse for Cutters Invitational. NRCHA professionals and judges answered questions prior to the competition for these 20 new contestants, giving them the chance to learn the finer points of reined cow horse competition. Makayla Cowan, riding Kathy Pinkley's mare She's Divine (Metallic Cat x Shesa Show Stopper x Peptoboonsmal), took the win and was presented with a CR Morrison bronze finish trophy sponsored by Anne Albert, a 20X hat from Shorty’s Caboy Hattery, and a custom Preston Williams bit sponsored by Preston Williams Hardware.

NRCHyA Stallion Auction 
The NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales in Watt Arena on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, will offer a special NRCHyA Stallion Auction. 2021 breedings to great stallions will be up for bid during separate sale sessions, including: CR Gotcha Covered, CD Diamond, Cool N Hot, Dual Reyish, Dual Smart Rey, Hashtags, Hickory Holly Time, Kit Kat Sugar, Meteles Cat, One Time Pepto, One Time Royalty, SJR Diamon Mist and Time For The Diamond. All proceeds go to benefit NRCHA youth programs.

The $110,000-added World Championship Rope Horse Futurity, presented by DT Horses and the American Rope Horse Futurity Association, kicks off on Thursday, October 22 at 8 a.m. in John Justin Arena with the Open Heading preliminaries. The ARHFA World Championship is a do-not-miss event for roping enthusiasts as some of the best in the business will be on hand to showcase their phenomenal equine partners for the next three days.  

Champion cutting stallion Dual R Smokin, recently acquired by Dave and Becky Kuhl of Skillet Fork Performance Horses, will make a special appearance here at the Snaffle Bit Futurity on Friday and Saturday. The leading sire formerly owned by J5 Horse Ranch will be available to see in person over at the Moncrief Building outside Watt Arena. Dual R Smokin currently stands at Oswood Stallion Station.

October 22 - The Open and Non Pro cow work preliminaries came to a close today in Fort Worth, Texas, at the $1.3 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity, presented by Metallic Cat, which means that Open and Non Pro finalists are official. One from among the field of elite 3-year-old cow horses that have qualified for the Open finals will earn the $125,000 champion’s paycheck this Saturday, October 24, and anticipation is high to see whose dream of becoming the Snaffle Bit Futurity champion will come true.

With the 25 top scores, including ties, advancing to the Open finals, it took a 651 composite to make the cut. In the Intermediate Open, 19 advanced and a 648 composite was needed. Making the top 11 in the Limited Open took a 641. To be among the top 16 in the Non Pro it took a 639; in the Intermediate Non Pro a 631 made the top 12, and in the Novice Non Pro a 618.5 made the top 10.

Finals herd work begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 in Will Rogers Coliseum with Intermediate and Limited Open, followed by Non Pro, and culminating with the Open. On Friday, October 23 Intermediate Open, Limited Open, and Non Pro finals take place.

Smart Chic An Tari (Smart Chic Olena x Shiney Tari x Shining Spark), ridden by Sarah Dawson for Aaron Ranch, kept a lock on the No. 1 spot in the Open Snaffle Bit Futurity composite with a 666.5 (223 rein/ 218 herd), thanks to their crowd-pleasing 225.5 in the fence prelims. As the high scoring team in the preliminary round of cow work they banked $5,000.

There was a three-way tie for first in the Limited Open Snaffle Bit Futurity cow prelims with identical scores of 219, each earning $500. October 20 - Bridle horses competed today in Will Rogers Coliseum to determine the field of 11 (plus one tie) finalists that will be gunning for the Open Bridle championship here on Wednesday evening. In the John Justin Arena, the Non Pro Limited Snaffle Bit Futurity champion was named. Then, it was Non Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity competitors who completed the reined work phase of this equine triathlon. The day culminated with an exciting start to the Open Futurity cow work prelims. Open and Non Pro competitors are all working to earn a berth to Saturday’s climactic Snaffle Bit Futurity Finals.

Non Pro Limited Futurity Champion
The first NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity championship was awarded today when Hope Mitchell secured with Non Pro Limited victory. An accomplished non pro cutter competing in her first snaffle bit futurity, Mitchell rode the 2017 mare Wing Anda Prayer (Meteles Cat x Wings OfA Lena x Quejanaisalena) to a cumulative score of 641.5 (214 herd/ 211 rein/ 216.5 cow) for total earnings of $7,045. Wing Anda Prayer is owned by Hope and John Mitchell. The breeder of Wing Anda Prayer was Marcus Vinicius T. Guimaraes.

Open Hackamore Classic and NRCHA horse show action dominated the day here at the $1.3 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat. Designated for 4- and 5-year-old hackamore horses shown in the traditional headgear used by the early day Vaqueros, Hackamore Classic entries show in each of the three phases of cow horse competition—the herd, rein and fence work.

October 19 - Over in the iconic Will Rogers Coliseum, bridle horses took center stage today as championships were decided in Non Pro divisions. Youth Limited competitors then took to the arena, followed by NRCHA Cowboy Class Invitational entries to wrap up an action-packed day.

Open, Intermediate Open & Limited Open Hackamore Classic Champion
MC Cowhammer (Metallic Cat x GunSmart Gay x Playgun) and Trevor Carter worked their way through the herd work, reined work and cow work—excelling in each phase through the course of the competition—to secure the Open Hackamore Classic championship here at the 2020 Snaffle Bit Futurity. The dynamic team won more than $27,000 for their 667 (223 herd/ 221.5 rein/ 222.5 cow) as winners of the Open, Intermediate Open and Limited Open Hackamore Classic divisions. Bogle Brothers, LLC. are the breeders and owners of MC Cowhammer.

MC Cowhammer’s 221.5 reined work and 222.5 down the fence also overtook the top spot in the Open Hackamore horse show class with a 444 aggregate. The Open Hackamore Finals happen on Wednesday, October 21 in the Justin Arena where final results will be determined. It took a cumulative score of 434 to make the Open Hackamore Finals.

The 2006 gelding is owned by Addison Fjelstad. NRCHA Cowboy Class Invitational presented by MC Cowhammer
NRCHA offered a $2,000-added Cowboy Class here at the Snaffle Bit Futurity presented by Metallic Cat. MC Cowhammer graciously sponsored this special class, which brings ranch cowboys and cowgirls to the show pen where they have an opportunity to polish some of the same skills used in day-to-day ranch work as they compete in rein worked, fence work and roping. 

Kelsey Thomas and Dualshot At Midnite (Dual Shot Doc x Sassy Peppy Dual x Mister Dual Pep) earned the championship thanks to scores of 71 in the reined work, 71 in the roping, and 73.5 on the cow for a cumulative score of 215.5. Thomas received check for $1,095 and a custom Preston Williams hardware headstall, bit and set of romal reins courtesy of Preston Williams and MC CowHammer.

AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge Winners
The $15,000-added AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge took place today in the Coliseum. Winners in all classes were awarded Classic Equine Classic Fit front boots and bell boots sponsored by Martin Saddlery and BOXO Quarter Horses.
 
The Ranching Heritage 5&6-year-old Working Ranch Horse was Smart Ladies Sparkle (WR This Cats Smart x Shiners Diamond Lady x Shining Spark). Smart Ladies Sparkle was ridden by Matt Koch for owner Myra Koch to a 148 (73 rein/ 75 cow) for $1,200. Smart Ladies Sparkle was bred by Wagonhound Land & Livestock. Smart Ladies Sparkle and Koch also won the Ranching Heritage Open Ranch Riding with a 76.

Winner of the Ranching Heritage Limited Amateur Ranch Horse (Box-Drive) and Level One Limited Amateur was Twenty Will Do (Cat Man Do x King Tucks Miss x Poco King Tuck) owned and ridden by Melaina Middleton to a 149 (74 rein/ 75 cow) to earn $1,077. WT Waggoner Estate is the breeder of Twenty Will Do.

The Ranching Heritage 4-year-old Working Ranch Horse winner was Hot Night In Rio (Cats Desire x MCC Travalin Riostar x Bobs Hickory Rio), ridden by Luke Jones to a 146.5 (73 rein/ 73.5 cow) for Kris Klingaman and Dave Albrecht. Breeders of Hot Night In Rio are Jeff or Sue Dawson. Hot Night In Rio earned $1,480.

The Ranching Heritage Limited Open 5&6-year-old champion with a 147.5 (73.5 rein/ 74 cow) was Wanna Be A Pepto (Pocket Fulla Pepto x Wanna Be Blonde x Double My Whiskey), ridden by Garrett Cooper for owner and breeder, W.T. Waggoner Estate, to $800 in earnings.

The top Ranching Heritage 7-year-old Working Ranch Horse was Playin Motown (Mr Playinstylish x Mo Flo x Mr Peponita Flo), ridden by Ben Baldus for owner Catelyn M. Walker to a 150 (75 rein/ 75 cow), which was worth $1,770.

The top Ranching Heritage Cowboy Working Ranch Horse was Ranch Rooster (Gallo Del Cielo x PC Miss Smoakum x PC Fire N Smoak), ridden by Orren Koontz for owner and breeder Durrett Cattle Co. to a 142.5 (69.5 rein/ 73 cow), which earned $1,500.

Ben Self rode Smart Kwackin Boon to the win in the Ranching Heritage Youth Working Ranch Horse and Level One Youth Working Ranch Horse with a 144 (71 rein/ 73 cow) to earn $333. Smart Kwackin Boon is owned by Birgit Self.

Accomplished non professional Tammy Jo Hays and her horse Stylin Kat (Kit Kat Sugar x Stylin Tonette x Docs Stylish Oak), which she owns in partnership with her father Walter Greeman, achieved the high scoring herd work today in the Non Pro Futurity with a 219 to earn $1,400. Stylin Kat was bred by Rick Mattson.

Competition at the 2020 Snaffle Bit Futurity has been fierce. Five teams scored 219 to share the lead in the Open herd work preliminary round.

October 12 - The National Reined Cow Horse Association Hackamore Classic, held in conjunction with the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, showcases reined cow horses expertly ridden in the traditional hackamore. The Open Hackamore Classic herd work was held today in Will Rogers Coliseum at the Will Rogers Memorial Center here in Fort Worth, Texas. Rein and cow work portions of the equine triathlon for 4- and 5-year-old reined cow horses will run concurrent with the Open, Intermediate Open and Limited Open Hackamore blocks in John Justin Arena on Sunday, October 18.

Open Snaffle Bit Futurity herd work dominates the next two days of action here at the $1.3 million Snaffle Bit Futurity, which will conclude on Saturday, October 24 with the crowning of the 2020 champion and presentation of a $125,000 first-place paycheck.

Open Hackamore Classic Herd Work
Upon conclusion of 10 sets of Open Hackamore Classic herd work it was the team of Hott Rod, ridden by Corey Cushing for owner Lynne Wurzer, who scored a 224 to top the go round. Bred by Austin Adams, Hott Rod is a 2015 stallion sired by Hottish and out of the High Brow Cat daughter Sugars Smart Kitty. Hott Rod had amassed $167,505 in NRCHA lifetime earnings prior to arriving here in Fort Worth, and most recently captured reserve honors at the NRCHA Stallion Stakes Open held in Las Vegas, Nevada in August.

October 11 - Day No. 2 of the National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, saw more brilliant performances by the top 3-year-old equine tri-athletes in the country as the Open reined work preliminaries came to a close in John Justin Arena at Will Rogers Memorial Center. Each owner and rider team is gunning for their share of the total event payout, which is projected to reach $1.3 million. The Open Futurity Champion will leave Fort Worth, Texas, $125,000 richer upon conclusion of the Finals on October 24.

Open Futurity Rein Work Prelims
Three leading NRCHA Professionals shared the Open Futurity rein work preliminary round win with identical scores of 223. Each team collected a $3,167 paycheck. Nick Dowers' score of 223 aboard Smart Time Out, owned and bred by Jerry Beukelman, set the bar high. Smart Time Out is sired by 2013 Snaffle Bit Futurity champion Time For The Diamond and out of NRCHA Supreme Reined Cow Horse One Smart Lil Tucker by NRCHA million-dollar sire Very Smart Remedy. Also scoring a 223 was Sarah Dawson with an impeccable performance aboard Smart Chic An Tari (Smart Chic Olena x Shiney Tari x Shining Spark) owned and bred by Aaron Ranch. Rounding out the three-way tie was DT Hickorys Playtime ridden by Kelby Phillips for owner and breeder DT Horses, LLC. DT Hickorys Playtime is sired by Hickory Holly Time and out of the Freckles Playboy daughter Play Like Clay.

A great season finale for ERCHA with the Futurity & Autumn Show held in Travagliato, Italy.

It was a One Man Show for Giovanni Campanaro who took the $15,000-added ERCHA/NRCHA OKAMI Ranch Open Futurity title riding Cap Bet Aristo Cat, tied for the Reserve Championship with Shesa Genuinelypepto and qualified six horses for the Finals!
The spotlight was on Italian Professional Giovanni Campanaro on Sunday afternoon in Travagliato, Italy, where the European Reined Cow Horse (ERCHA)/National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Cow Work Futurity Finals were held.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association proud to announce that WestWorld of Scottsdale will host the 2021 NRCHA Derby presented by DT Horses LLC, home of NRCHA champion stallions Hickory Holly Time and Nineteen Ten. A multi-year agreement between the world-renowned equestrian facility and NRCHA makes Scottsdale, Arizona, home to the NRCHA Derby, which features 4- and 5-year-old reined cow horses, beginning in June 2021 through 2023.

After extensive research and consideration, the NRCHA Board of Directors have modified World Championship qualification requirements for the 2020 show season. The show season will end on November 15, 2020, as usual, but the "top twenty" and "in the same region" requirements have been waived for this year.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association has returned to fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Stallion Stakes. For eight consecutive years, the elite South Point Arena and Equestrian Center has been home to the NRCHA Stakes.

The event, historically held in March, features 4-and 5-year-old horses who are sired by Subscribed Stallions. This year, the rescheduled Stakes will also feature a Pre-Futurity for 3-year-old horses. In addition to these robust limited age events, the Stakes offers a complete set of horse show classes and several three-event spectaculars. For nine days, the top horses and riders in the country will vie for $500,000 in payouts and a plethora of prizes.
