Quirk and Quirk go 1-2 in Ike Classic Non-Pro Finals

Todd and Elizabeth Quirk, Dehnam Springs, La., dominated  the 2020 Ike Non-Pro Classic, on Wednesday, February 12, with Todd’s 225-point win on Reystylin Smooth, and Elizabeth’s 221-point reserve title on Dressedin Smartstyle. Elizabeth also scored 218 points to place fourth in the six-horse finals riding Catillac Reys LTE $192,573, by Metallic Cat, while Todd and Reystylin Smooth claimed first-place payouts in the Classic Non-Pro Novice and Gelding divisions, and Elizabeth earned second and third-place payouts on Dressedin Smartstyle, in both of those divisions, as well.

Six-year-old Reystylin Smooth LTE $187,008, by Smooth As A Cat, has been a winner with both Todd and Elizabeth, as well as with with Adan Banuelos, who won the Brazos Bash Open Classic and the West Texas Futurity Open Classic riding the Quirks’ gelding.
Reystylin Smooth, bred by Eddie and Barbara Young, is out of Rey N Style LTE $102,608, by Dual Smart Rey.  Reystylin Smooth is Rey N Style’s second foal and first money earner.
Dressedin Smartstyle LTE $152,075, bred by Double Dove Ranch and sired by Dual Smart Rey, was a 2018 NCHA Open Futurity finalist (10th) and 2019 Super Stakes finalist (7th) under Adan Banuelos, and also won the 2019 Idaho Non-Pro Futurity with Elizabeth Quirk. The 5-year-old gelding, out of Stylish Play Lena LTE $264,474, by Docs Stylish Oak, is also a half brother to the earners of over $2 million, including Pepto Boon LTE $296,183, Smooth Talkin Style LTE $293,232, Hottish LTE $286,109, Copperish LTE $281,844, and Halreycious LTE $227,459.
Todd Quirk is the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $665,924: Elizabeth Quirk is the NCHA Non-Pro Hall of Fame earner of $1,027,215.
Hashtag Metallic and Brad Mitchell win Derby Open Limited
Hashtag Metallic, by Metallic Cat, scored 220 points under Brad Mitchell to win the Ike Derby Open Limited, on Wednesday. Gunnar Jensen, by Cat Ichi, scored 218.5 points with Craig Thompson to claim reserve, while Reyahna, by Dual Rey, and Kelle Earnheart placed third with 218 points.
Gunnar Jensen and Thompson also placed first in the Derby Open Limited Novice and Open Limited Gelding divisions, while Reyahna and Earnheart placed second in the Open Limited Novice.
Hashtag Metallic LTE $15,013, bred by Rock Creek Ranch and owned by Tom Williams, Haleyville, Ala., is the first money earner out of Shes Playin Tag, an unshown High Brow CD daughter out of Playin Tag LTE $220,949. Hashtag Metallic made his debut in the 2019 NCHA Futurity, where he carried Tom Williams as an Amateur finalist.
Tom Williams also owns Sofies Choice Cat LTE $57,165, who Brad Mitchell showed to place second in the 5/6 Classic Open Limited Finals, on Tuesday, and who Williams showed as reserve champion of the 2018 NCHA Amateur Futurity.

Classic win for Rollz Royce and Beau Galyean

Rollz Royce, by Dual Smart Rey, and Beau Galyean clinched the 2020 Ike 5/6 Classic with 229 points, on Monday, February 3, in West Monroe, La.  Defending 2019 Classic champion Blackish, sired by Hottish, and shown Lloyd Cox, claimed reserve with 226, while the 6-year-old Hottish gelding Hott Nu Cowboy, ridden by Cullen Chartier, took third with 224.5 points.

The win was worth $12,000 for 6-year-old Rollz Royce LTE $264,479 and was his seventh major career title. He has also earned six major reserve championships, including the 2018 Ike Derby, where he was second to Blackish and Lloyd Cox.
Bred by Royce Stalcup, owned by Thomas Guinn, Philadelphia, Miss., and shown exclusively by Beau Galyean, Rollz Royce racked up three of his wins in 2019, including the NCHA Classic Challenge with 229 points, the NCHA Super Stakes Classic with 228, and the Bonanza Classic with 227 points.
Blackish LTE $180,239 and Lloyd Cox, winners of the 2018 Ike Derby and co-reserve champions of the 2019 Ike Classic for owner and breeder Julie Jarma, topped the 2020 Ike Classic Open go-round on Sunday, February 2 with 227 points. Jarma also showed her mare to win the 2019 Brazos Bash Non-Pro Classic championship.
Blackish, Rollz Royce, and 5-year-old Bad Boonarising LTE $276,395, shown to place sixth in Monday’s Derby under Adan Banuelos, share a unique bottom line, which traces to the Son Ofa Doc daughter Show Biz Sandy. LTE $81,222, the 1993 NCHA Open World Champion, shown by Billy Ray Rosewell.  Rollz Royce and Bad Boonarising are both out of Show Biz Kitty, an unshown daughter of High Brow Cat and Show Biz Sandy, while Blackish is out of the Show Biz Kitty daughter SS Blacks Lil Kitty $186,700, sired by Blue Bayou Boon, bred by Starkey Smith, and primarily shown by her owner, Julie Jarma.
Third-placed Hott Nu Cowboy LTE $104,013, was bred by Wrigley Ranches and is owned by Circle R Cutting Horses, Ocala, Fla. Hott Nu Cowboy earned his biggest career paycheck at four, when he placed eleventh in the 2018 NCHA Open Super Stakes with Phil Rapp. He also placed in the 2018 Breeders Open Invitational and numerous other 2018 and 2019 events with Sean Flynn. In addition his third-place payout of $9,000 with Chartier in the 2020 Ike Classic, Hott Nu Cowboy also earned $2,195 as high-scoring Open Gelding.

Countess Catrina aces the count in Ike Derby Finals

Countess Catrina, by Im Countin Checks, scored 228 points under Austin Shepard on Tuesday, to win the Ike Open Derby and a $21,000 paycheck. Buonvino, by Metallic Cat, claimed the reserve championship and $19,000, with 224 points under Beau Galyean, while Boondexterous, sired by Once In A Blu Boon and shown by Cullen Chartier, placed third with 223 points.

Countess Catrina LTE $131,750, owned and bred by Rhein and Amanda Standish, Baton Rouge, La., placed fifth with Shepard in the NCHA Futurity and was also a finalist in the Augusta Futurity. A full sister to Deluxe Chekcs LTE $283,156, Countess Catrina is out of the High Brow Cat daughter Catrina Starlight LTE $99,456, whose dam, Stella Starlight LTE $292,408, won the 2000 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro championship with her breeder, Lach Perks, and also placed fifth in the Open Futurity under Bruce Morine. Catrina Starlight is one among 22 NCHA earners of over $1.2 million out of Stella Starlight.
Buonvino LTE $27,559, owned by Billy Wolf, Whitesboro, Tex., came to The Ike as a finalist (13th) under Beau Galyean, in the Abilene Spectacular. In addition to his $19,000 payout as reserve champion of the Ike Derby, Buonvino, a half-brother to Catoker LTE $42,541, also earned $5,485 as the high-scoring horse in the Open Novice and Gelding divisions.
Boondexterous LTE $44,563, owned by Belle Terre Ranch, Corinth, Miss., was an NCHA Futurity Non-Pro semi-finalist with Missy Jean Etheridge, and placed in finals of the Abilene Spectacular Open under Cullen Chartier. In addition to $15,733 for third place in the Open, the red roan gelding also earned the second-place payout of $2,328 in the Ike Derby Open Novice division.
In the 5/6 Classic Limited Finals, Redhead From Denver and Bradey Davis claimed the win with 225 points. Sofies Choice Cat and Brad Mitchell were second with 220, while Most Stylish Player and Nate Gribble took third with 219 points.
Sired by Metallic Cat, 5-year-old Redhead From Denver LTE $46,351 is owned by Lindy Wells, Madisonville, Tex. Last year, Redhead From Denver and Bradey Davis won the AQHA Congress Open Derby.
Five-year-old Sofies Choice Cat LTE $57,165, is owned by Tom Williams, Haleyville, Ala., who placed second on the Metallic Cat gelding in the 2018 NCHA Futurity Amateur finals, and also won the NCHA Futurity Amateur Senior division.
In addition to placing third in the Ike Limited Open finals, Most Stylish Player LTE $8,868 also won the 5/6 Limited Novice division. Owned by Cowan Ranch, Ardmore, Okla., and sired by Lizzys Gotta Player, 6-year-old Most Stylish Player is a full sister to Moms Stylish Player $403,762, among the earners of over $1.3 million out of Moms Stylish Babe, by Docs Stylish Oak.
