The world’s best cowboys and bucking bulls clashed Saturday night in Bismarck to decide the first event of the 2020 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) second half, accompanied by loudly cheering fans during a dramatic, high-scoring championship round as one rider topped another, and the real human voices in the grandstands of the Bismarck Civic Center sure sounded beautiful.
As the PBR Dakota Community Bank & Trust Invitational presented by Cooper Tires came to a close, Colten Jesse (Konawa, Oklahoma) stood atop the Can-Am cage in the center of the dirt with a triumphant smile on his face following a title-clinching 92.25-point trip aboard Sky Harbor (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ Wilks Ranch). Jesse put up the highest score of the weekend when it counted most to win the first event win of his career on the Unleash The Beast (UTB).

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – As PBR (Professional Bull Riders) welcomed fans back into the arena to the first live sporting event since mid-March in Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, Game One of the Monster Energy Team Challenge Playoffs ended in a 0-0 tie. Team Las Vegas and Team Boot Barn went head-to-head on the dirt, but were flattened by a raucous pen of bulls, who jerked and whipped and violently flung all eight cowboys over 14 outs, turning in 10 bull scores of more than 43 points. Team Las Vegas (4-2-1) will move on to Playoff Day Two Saturday based upon its regular season aggregate score, keeping its Monster Energy Team Challenge Championship hopes alive. After the loss, Team Boot Barn (3-2-2) headed to a consolation game for fifth place. Team Las Vegas moves on to play Division B No. 1 seed Team Pendleton Whisky tomorrow, Saturday, July 11. The winner of that game will secure a berth in the Monster Energy Team Challenge Championship.
“The bull power is the same it was in Vegas,” said Team Las Vegas Captain Stetson Wright.
“I just didn’t show up ready tonight obviously. But luckily my team rode good coming in during the regular season and we are moving on.”

Want to see a grown cowboy cry? Tell any of the greatest team ropers of all time that his daughter won’t have to fight the same fight he has all his life to compete for equal money. While team roping is now a standard event at all professional rodeos, the best team ropers in the world have yet to earn equal money everywhere they compete. Both partners pay association dues, entry fees, fuel and all other expenses—including trucks, trailers and the high-dollar horses it takes to hang at the highest level—and yet they’re still fighting for equal pay.
