For Immediate Release – March 28, 2020 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Just two short weeks ago, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) made swift decisions regarding COVID-19, including instructing the office team to work remotely for at least two weeks and issuing a statement strongly encouraging event producers to postpone or cancel all NRHA-approved events through March 30, 2020. NRHA officials carefully considered both of these decisions and understand their far-reaching implications on the industry as a whole. Following is an update on those situations as well as decisions made this week by the NRHA Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

NRHA Welcomes Newest Affiliate: South Africa

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) welcomed South Africa as the newest international affiliate this fall. Greg and Lizelle Garland, NRHA members from South Africa, toyed with the idea of starting an affiliate for about three years before diving in headfirst. Officially recognized in July 2019, the South African affiliate hosted three shows in a span of just two months: the first in August and two more in October.

Rosanne Sternberg: NRHA Two Million Dollar Owner

Congratulations to National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame inductee Rosanne Sternberg for becoming the second-ever NRHA Two Million Dollar Owner. After reaching the NRHA Million Dollar Owner milestone in 2010 and being inducted into the NRHA Hall of Fame in 2017, she’s remained dedicated to producing quality reining horses while consistently striving for the next level of achievement.

Shiners Voodoo Dr, by NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire Shining Spark and out of Voodoo Chic (by NRHA Six Million Dollar Sire Smart Chic Olena), a 2007 stallion, crossed the Million Dollar Sire mark last week as announced by his owner Michael Miola of Silver Spurs Equine. The fancy-looking palomino stallion stands at Silver Spurs Equine in Purcell, Oklahoma.

The Southwest Reining Horse Association Billingsley Ford Open Futurity provides a last-minute opportunity for reiners across the country to evaluate their three-year-olds who will soon be competing in the big arena at Oklahoma City.
