Lockwood covered Bezerk (BMC Bucking Bulls/Jenkins Cattle Co.), while Swearingen made the 8 aboard Cochise (Jane Clark/Gene Owen).
In league record books, the round is now tied for the most 90-point rides during a 15/15 Bucking Battle in PBR history. The Tulsa stop is now alongside the Nampa, Idaho, and Sacramento, California, 15/15 Bucking Battles from 2012, which both also featured five 90-point rides.
For Lockwood, the 15/15 Bucking Battle win was his second of the season, victorious at the latest edition of the special round in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in mid-May.
Prior to his win, Lockwood began the night on a strong note when he rode Uncle Gangster (Ogden Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.) for 88.5 points to finish second in Round 1.
Collectively, Lockwood earned $8,750 in addition to 180 world points.
While he remains No. 3 in the world, he closed the gap on current No. 1 Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas). Previously 622.5 points behind Outlaw, Lockwood now trails the top spot by 475 world points as the race for the 2019 PBR World Championship further intensifies.
Ranked No. 17 in the world prior to the Tulsa event, Swearingen was not initially slated to compete in the 15/15 Bucking Battle. Swearingen, however, was added to the draw late after 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) was unable to compete after sustaining a concussion in the first round.
The 90-point effort was the first of Swearingen’s career on the elite Unleash The Beast, and is now the high-marked ride of the 20-year-old’s career.
Swearingen’s first-ever 15/15 Bucking Battle victory earned him a paycheck for $6,000 along with 120 world points.
He rose one position in the world standings, now No. 16.
Fellow Rookie of the Year contender Mason Taylor (Maypearl, Texas) finished third, netting him $4,000 and 75 world points.
The first 90-point ride of his elite tour career, the Texan reached the 8 aboard Canadian Mist (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) for a 90.5-point score.
Going a perfect 2-for-2, an 82-point effort atop Ridin Solo (Cord McCoy/Steve Best) in Round 1 positions Taylor tied for 14th overall in the event. He netted $4,000 and 75 world points and gained one position in the world standings, now ranked No. 13.
Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) and Luciano de Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) tied for fourth in the 15/15 Bucking Battle after both recorded 90.25-point scores.
Jesus rode three-time and reigning PBR World Champion Bull SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Carrle Co./Buck Cattle Co.), while Castro covered Soup in a Group (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Wilks Ranch).
Each cowboy earned $2,500 and 52.5 world points, both maintaining their No. 15 and No. 7 world ranks, respectively.
Overall, the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Tulsa featured nine rides, further setting PBR history. The special round now holds the record for most qualified rides in a 15/15 Bucking Battle, surpassing the 2013 event in Hollywood, Florida, which featured eight, none of which were for 90 points or more.
The remaining qualified rides were recorded by: Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls, Montana) for 88.75 points on Legit (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Julie Rosen/Clay Struve/Leffew); Outlaw for 88.5 points on Bottoms Up (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.); Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) for 85.75 points on Old Fort Days (K-C Bucking Bulls/Sparklin Acres); and Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacaembu, Brazil) for 81.5 points on Smooth Wreck (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Diamond Willow).
While the 15/15 Bucking Battle was the site of many firsts, the historic nature of the event began in Round 1 when Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) became the fourth rider in the past 10 years to win the opening round of their debut premier series event.
He joins the likes of Douglas Duncan (Huntsville, Texas), Nevada Newman (Melstone, Montana) and Cannon Cravens (Porum, Oklahoma) who accomplished the feat in 2009, 2016 and 2018, respectively.
As the second man to erupt from the chutes during the Saturday night event, Kasel brought the electric crowd to its feet when he made the 8 on Sun Country (Sirridge/Sun Country/Donaho) for 88.75 points.
The top marks netted him $3,580 along with 100 world points, propelling him from No. 43 to No. 37 in the world rankings.
Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil) finished third courtesy of his 87.5-point ride on El Big Bad (Hudgins Bucking Bulls). The Top-5 finish in the round earned him $2,000 and 50 world points. He rose from No. 27 to No. 24 in the world rankings.
Competing on the premier series for the first time since February 2018, Australian Kurt Shephard (Mareeba, Queensland, Australia) finished fourth in Round 1. He rode Concealed Carry (Rockin R Bucking Bulls/Jerry Rush) for 87.25 points.
Shephard left the BOK Center Saturday night with $1,300 and 40 world points.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Outlaw and Vieira, who both posted 87-point rides for their 8-second efforts aboard Chuck & Larry (Richard & Teri Braun/Wallgren) and Bulls Eye (Mears/Broken Arrow).
The duo each earned $725 and 22.5 world points.
Saturday night also included an American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) Classic event.
Chiseled (D&H Cattle Co./Flinn), son of decorated PBR bucking bull Stone Sober, earned a 90-point score after bucking off Joe Frost (Randlett, Utah) to win the ABBI Tulsa Classic event for just under $10,000. In a three-way tie for second place, Proctors Pride (K Bar C/Bull Creek Bucking Bulls), El Big Bad and Concealed Carry all notched 86.6 points to earn almost $5,000. Hailstorm of Flying Diamond Bucking Bulls took fifth place with 86.2 points to take home more than $3,000.
