Opening PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) second half, a steely eyed Jess Lockwood looks unstoppable.

After an action-packed and, at times brutal championship round, at the Fertitta Center in Houston, the 2017 World Champion from Volborg, Montana, collected back-to-back event wins for the second time of the 2019 PBR season by taking the Winstar World Casino and Resort Houston Invitational, presented by Bass Pro Shops Sunday afternoon.

Similar to his sweep to start the season when he won the Chicago Invitational just one week after his season-opening event title inside Madison Square Garden, Lockwood was on fire in Houston a week after winning at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A technically flawless and in control 3-for-3 performance launched Lockwood back into the No.1 spot in the world standings, leading Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) by 320 points. Outlaw had surged into the world No. 1 spot after winning Saturday’s 15/15 Bucking Battle.

Lockwood leapfrogged Outlaw with a crowd-pleasing 88.75-point ride aboard Budakon (Hart Cattle Co/ Hale) in the championship round Sunday afternoon. He entered the championship round after making the 8 earlier in the day aboard Church Bells (Hart Cattle Co/ Hale) for 85.5 points.

The Montana man earned 460 world points and a $34,585 paycheck on his quest toward another potential World Championship. He is now 26-for-37 with a 70.27% riding average for the season.

Amid a weekend of historic rides, including two-time World Champion J.B. Mauney moving into the all-time No. 2 position in PBR qualified rides, three-time World Champion Silvano Alves (Pilar do Sul, Brazil) punched his ticket into the “400 Club” by recording his 400th career ride aboard Dusty’s Revenge (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 for 85.75 points. In addition, Lockwood’s winning ride in the championship round marked his 100th career ride.

Although the rank Rocket Man (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) bucked 2016 World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) off in Sunday’s earlier Round 2, Davis’ impressive 90-point ride aboard Lester Gillis (Jane Clark/ Gene Owen) in the championship round saved the day as he tied for a second-place finish with North Dakota cowboy Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota).

Lawrence brought the Houston crowd to its feet in conquering Safety Meeting (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ Hruby/Kainz) in the championship round for 86.5 points. Earlier in the day, Lawrence made the 8 aboard Red Bandana for 84.75 points to secure his place on the leaderboard.

Both cowboys collected 295 world points. Davis, who began and ended the weekend in the No. 6 spot in the world standings, headed home with a check for $16,350. Lawrence earned $13,900 and catapulted from the No. 19 spot in the standings to No. 14.

Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas) hit the dirt early in the championship round while atop Sosa’s Alley Cat (JD Nix/Sosa Buckers), but still finished fourth for the weekend. In Round 2, Teel covered Scarface (Paradigm Bull Company) for 87 points. The native Texan collected $8,145 and 160 world points to hold on strong to his No. 5 spot in the world standings.

Rounding out the Top 5 was 2019 Rookie of the Year leader Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York). Despite hitting the dirt early aboard Constant Sorrow (Blake Sharpe/ Buckwild Bucking Stock) in Round 2 and being bested by BootDaddy.com (Crescent City Bucking Bulls/ Gene Owen) in the championship round, the young gun held his own after his Round 1-win Saturday. He earned a paycheck for $7,480 and 110 world points, which lands him in the No. 10 spot in the world standings.

Heartbreak Kid (D&H Cattle/Buck Cattle/Erwin Cattle) was the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event with a 45.5-point bull score in Saturday's special 15/15 Bucking Battle when he exploded from the chutes like a pack of dynamite and dispatched Teel in 4.17 seconds.

Action from Round 2 and the championship round can be seen in its entirety on RidePass.com or via the RidePass mobile app starting on Monday, August 19 at 8 a.m. ET.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will next head to Nashville, Tennessee for PBR’s final Major of the year at the Jack Daniels Music City Knockout, presented by Cooper Tires at Bridgestone Arena August 24-25.
