The 27-year-old, entering his third-year of U.S. competition, made the 8-second whistle early in the 45-man round on Friday night. Taking on Slumlord (Nothin’ But Try Ranch/’Diggers Bucking Bulls), Lima burst from the chutes, spurs flying, on the way to an 88.5-point score.
Earning an important seven world points for his round win, Lima is searching for his first qualification for the premier Unleash The Beast tour, and a win in Cedar Park would give him just that. Along with the points, Lima earned $789 and now sits tied for 14th in the world standings.
The lone rider representing the Great White North in Texas this weekend, Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta, Canada) was just one point out of first place in Round 1, turning in an 87.5-point trip aboard Wired Up (Rafter B Bucking Bulls/Harris).
Competing in his first PWVT event since 2018, Biever sits in second heading into Round 2 and earned four world points and $591.75 for his Round 1 efforts.
North Carolina’s Eli Vastbinder (Statesville, North Carolina) rounded out the Top 3 at the end of the night. The decade-plus PBR veteran made his mark on the round with an 87-point ride. Matching his opponent Deplorabull (Winston Bucking Bulls/Melton Bull Co.) jump for jump, Vastbinder was one of the 13 rides in the round.
The third-place finish gave the 29-year-old three world points and $394.50.
Fourth place was split by three veterans, Valdiron de Oliveira (Balcimo, Brazil), Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) and Francisco Morales (Irapuato, Mexico).
The 41-year-old Oliveira rode his way to fourth by besting Oilfield Outlaw’s Legacy (Oilfield Outlaw’s Bucking Bulls) to earn his 86.5-points. While Lima made the 8 aboard Speckled Chicken (Rawson/Obernagel/Daisy’s Bucking Bulls), PBR Global Cup competitor Morales took care of business on Rag Doll (Tom Baker Bucking Bulls).
For the three-way tie, each rider earned 1.33 world points and $65.75.
Texas’ own J.T. Moore (Alvin, Texas) got the night started in front of a home state crowd with his 86-point ride early in the round. Tupac (Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls/Just For Kicks) provided the bull power for the Alvin native who looks to capitalize on his position in Round 2 on Saturday.
Moore, finishing seventh in the round, earned one world point.
Along with the 13 qualified rides from Round 1, the Top 17 riders in buckoff time will advance to fill the 30-man Round 2 on Saturday.
