It took a qualifier and a final to bring home top honors in the NRHA Open with the highest added offered in Europe: the 2019 AMERICANA €40.000-added Open Bronze Trophy. NRHA Million Dollar Rider Ann Fonck went ahead and won with Diego and Laura Dalla Gassa’s Gunners Specialolena, a 5-year-old double registered AQHA/APHA mare by NRHA’s Three Million Dollar Sire Gunners Special Nite out of Dolly Jac Olena.

The duo – fresh off their NRHA European L4 Open Derby Championship – nailed each and every maneuver and set the stands — which counted over 5,000 spectators — on fire. They closed with a 228 score, adding the prestigious win to their accolades. Diego and Laura purchased the talented mare as a 4-year-old and passed the reins on to Ann Fonck with the idea of showing her, two months later, at the European Futurity. "That’s when I first showed her and immediately liked her," said Fonck about the mare that boasts close to $40,000 NRHA Lifetime Earnings. "The plan was that I show her at the major events in 2018 and to have Laura show her in the Italian 4-year-old Non Pro Futurity, where she ended up winning the levels 4 and 3! Since Laura is busy with her job as a professional nurse, this year she asked if I could show her again and I could not be any happier. I love this mare, she is the sweetest and so talented. This was supposed to be the lasts show this year, but with the big Elementa show coming up in Verona, that will be our next stop."
The Belgian professional also qualified her two other mounts for the finals: Spook N Perla owned by Golden Paint Ranch and Made In Walla, owned by Sabine Lisec and Chuck Klipfel, earning a fourth place and tying for sixth respectively.

The reserve spot, with a 225 score, went to Germany’s Grischa Ludwig and Coeurs Little Tyke (Coeur D Wright Stuff x Shine My Gun) owned by Georg Holzwarth. With 'the small horse with the big heart' [as Ludwig describes him] between the reins, Ludwig rode Germany to the Team and Individual gold medal in the past FEI European Reining Championship. A half-point behind, he also rode past NRHA Open Champion Nu Chexomatic (Nu Chex To Cash x Tejons Texie Lena) for owners Jac Point QH, to third place.
