September 04, 2020

The field is set, the players are named. The 2020 National Reining Breeders Classic Open preliminaries wrapped up Thursday evening after two tough days of competition. More than 180 horses entered the Ford Arena of the Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and that was whittled down to the best of the best who will compete in Saturday's clean-slate finals.

The big winner of the round was Casey Deary, who qualified all three of his entries back to the finals. Not only that, all three were in the top eight, with Gunnabeabrightstar besting the field with a 225.
Gunnabeabrightstar, by ARC Gunnabeabigstar out of Abbie Be Tuff, is owned by Neiberger Performance Horses LLC. The four-year-old stallion added an additional $13,816 to his lifetime earnings with his preliminary win.

The Development Division Championship is awarded to the highest scoring Developing Horse in the preliminary round, and Marie Kleiner and This Gun Works topped the division with a 217.5. This Gun Works, by Gunners Tinseltown and out of Reminic At Work, is owned by Jennifer Greenleaf.

It took a 219.5 to make the Open Level 4 finals, while a 217.5 was the magic number for the Level 3. Level 2 exhibitors marking a 215 or better will advance to the finals, as will Level 1 riders with a 208.5 or higher. In the Prime Time, a score of 210.5 (with handicap) was the bubble.
