As action unfolded on Friday at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Celebration of Champions as six NRCHA World Champions were crowned in John Justin Arena at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Through the course of the 10-day Celebration of Champions in Fort Worth, a total of 15 World and National Championships have been determined.

The Run For A Million adds $100,000 Cow Horse Invitational

The 2020 edition of The Run For A Million  will host its first-ever reined cow horse invitational during its second-annual edition July 29 — Aug. 1 in Las Vegas. The $100,000 cow horse event will be held in conjunction with the existing reining competitions at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center that include the Million Dollar Reining Invitational.

THE ERCHA/NRCHA AUTUMN SHOW IS A SUCCESS!

“With twice as many entries compared to last year, the 2019 edition of the ERCHA/NRHA Autumn Show is already a success!” said Otto De Fazio, vice president of the European Reined Cow Horse Association (ERCHA). Held at the Palacittà Travagliato Cavalli arena, the event open to 4- and 5-year-old horses shown two-handed in a snaffle bit or hackamore, offered three days of intense competition. The highlight was, of course, the Autumn Show along with the ancillary NRCHA approved classes, ERCHA and Regional classes and the determination of who would bring home the ERCHA year-end titles.

In customary reined cow horse fashion, Open, Intermediate Open and Limited Open championships at the $1.2 million dollar National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, , would be decided by the outcome of the fence work. The 50th running of the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity opened with red carpet introductions honoring the 25 Open Finalist owners and riders, after which time the Open Futurity rein work, Intermediate and Limited Open cow work, and thrilling Open cow work finals rocked the famed Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.

The hopes and dreams of 19 finalists in the NRCHA Non Pro Futurity ®, presented by Discount Tire, hinged upon one final fence run—as is customary in reined cow horse competition. Finalists in the Non Pro Futurity opened the day with their rein work in Will Rogers Coliseum here in Fort Worth, Texas, as excitement intensified to see the championship race unfold. The Non Pro rein work was followed by Intermediate Open and Limited Open rein work before action wrapped up with the Non Pro Futurity Finals cow work and the crowning of another champion the $1.2 million dollar National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat.

NRCHA fans witnessed an exciting day of reined cow horse activity today at Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, at the 50th running of the $1.2 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, Will Rogers Coliseum saw seven sets of NRCHA Non Pro Futurity presented by Discount Tire herd work, followed by a set of Non Pro Limited Hackamore Classic contestants pass through the gates. NRCHA horse show action dominated in the Justin Arena with the Non Pro Limited and Open Two Rein classes.

Day six of the $1.2 million National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, saw a shift in Open Futurity standings as riders continue to battle it out for a spot in the Open Finals on Saturday, October 19. Each Open Futurity entry is gunning for the $125,000 first-place paycheck available at the 50th running of the Western performance horse industry’s ultimate equine triathlon. 

WooodYa (Woody Be Tuff x CR Dees Boon Meow x Peptoboonsmal), ridden by Justin Wright for owner Eric Freitas, overtook the Open composite lead with a 217.5 out of the herd to combine with their round winning 223 in the reined work for a 440.5. The 2016 mare was bred by Center Ranch.
 
Duallicious (Dual Spark x Unos Charm x Smart Little Uno), ridden by Robert Smith III for owner Becky Smith, is currently splitting second and third in the Open rankings and remains in the top spot in the Intermediate Open Futurity composite with a 439.5 (219 herd/ 220.5 rein). Nineteen Ten (Hickory Holly Time x Lil Miss Shiney Chex x Shining Spark), bred by Carol Rose and owned by DT Horses, LLC, was ridden by Kelby Phillips to a 216.5 out of the herd for a combined 439.5 (223 rein) placing them second and third overall with Smith.

RPL Boon (Boon Too Suen x RPL Ich This x Cat Ichi), owned and ridden by Jordan Williams, captured the Open Futurity herd work preliminary round win with a 222.5, worth $6,000. This team also topped the Intermediate Open herd for another $2,250. The 2016 stallion was bred by Bobbie Arnold Atkinson.

Second in the Open Futurity herd went to Sixteen Carat Cat (Metallic Cat x All That N Cat x Highbrow Cat), ridden by Geoffrey Sheehan for Beechfork Ranch, with a 220.5 worth $4,000. Sheehan earned $1,750 for second in the Intermediate Open herd, $1,000 for first in the Limited Open herd and leads the Level 1 Limited Open herd.

Taking over the top spot in the Limited Open composite today was Logicality (Magicality x Boonlight Angel x Boonlight Dancer) ridden by Gusti Buerger for NRCHA Hall of Famer Anne Reynolds to a cumulative 434 (215 herd/ 219 rein). One Time Up North (One Time Pepto x Our Special Kitten x High Brow Cat), ridden by Chet Martin for owner Up North Quarter Horses, is second with a 433 (215 herd/ 218 rein). One Time Up North still leads the Level 1 Limited Open composite with three sets of herd work remaining tomorrow.

Here Comes The Boon and Lance Johnston lead Western Bloodstock NRCHA Open Sale Incentive
Not to be overlooked, another lucrative futurity race is on as part of the Open and Non Pro Futurity action. All weanlings, yearlings and 2-year-old horses sold at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales are eligible to participate in the NRCHA Sale Incentive Program. In 2019, the NRCHA added $25,000 to the purse, which is combined with pay-in fees from owners and consignors to bring the payout at this year’s Futurity to a whopping $120,000. Purses will be paid to the four highest-advancing eligible foals in the Open and Non Pro divisions based on preliminary composite scores--$85,120 total in the Open and $36,480 in the Non Pro. First place in the Open Sale Incentive payout is an estimated $34,048, while first in the Non Pro will award $14,592. 
Currently leading the Sale Incentive Open composite rankings is the 2016 stallion Here Comes The Boon (Once In A Blu Boon x Sta Outta My Shorts x Shorty Lena), ridden by Lance Johnston for Rocking BS Ranch, with a 438 (221 rein/ 217 herd).

Now in its 50th year, the iconic NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity features an appealing multi-level competition format for trainers, which consists of Open, Cinch Intermediate Open, Limited Open and Level One divisions. The $136,000-added Non Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity, presented by Discount Tire, provides lucrative incentives for non professional reined cow horse enthusiasts to compete as well. The show also features the NRCHA Hackamore Classic, as well as a full slate of NRCHA horse show classes boasting $95,800 in added prize money across all divisions to horses over the age of 4, plus a $15,000-added AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge.
